BIG3 Preview: Familiar Faces All Around To Make Chicago Return Memorable

By Ian Jackson (@IanNicholas42)

As the BIG3 heads to the Windy City for the third time in its three-year history, the league is carrying over a lot of good basketball from its previous games in Utah this past Saturday.

Once teammates for the Jazz, Joe Johnson and Al Jefferson’s shared return to Utah produced a big win for their Triplets team over the Ball Hogs. Iso Joe and Big Al combined for 33 points to help their squad reclaim the top spot in the league (5-1).

Former Chicago Bulls Brian Scalabrine, Carlos Boozer and Nate Robinson all return to the city this week in three games to be played at Allstate Arena in Rosemont starting at Noon, its broadcast on CBS starts at 11:30 a.m.

Along with the former Bulls, Chicago and suburban products Corey Maggette (Fenwick High School), Quentin Richardson (Whitney Young) and Julian Wright (Homewood-Flossmoor) will also be here to perform in front of one of the league’s most passionate fanbases. In fact the league’s reigning champion squad, Power, showcases all three players, including Maggette, who is the league’s reigning MVP.

Currently second in the BIG3 standings, Power will face a test in the Enemies Saturday. The first-year team has won 3 of 5 games and are looking to stay in the playoff hunt, as will all six teams playing in Rosemont.

Current Standings

  1. Triplets 5-1
  2. Power 4-1
  3. Killer 3’s 4-2
  4. Trilogy 3-2
  5. Enemies 3-2

The top six teams in the league, expanded from eight to 12 teams in 2019, make it to the BIG3’s playoff weekend, which takes place on the 25th in New Orleans.

Player to Watch: Andre Emmett

3’s Company is looking pretty hard to stop as of late with Emmett taking permanent residency “in the zone.”

The former Texas Tech star finished last Saturday’s game in Utah with 24 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 assists against the Killer 3’s as they get ready for Milwaukee Sunday where they take on Greg Oden and the Aliens.

More to Watch

  • Jazz superstar DeShawn Stevenson dropped 12 points and added 6 rebounds in the Ball Hogs’ loss. The only win less team in the league this season, the Hogs will finally try to get on the good side of things Sunday against Trilogy.
  • Winners of their last 3 games after losing their first 3, 3’s Company is in the playoff hunt behind Emmett, who ranks top-5 in the league in total points, rebounds and field goals
  • Bivouac also got to .500 last Saturday with a win over the Aliens behind Josh Smith and Anthony Morrow combining for 37 points, they’ll face Killer 3s Saturday in Chicago.
