So, its Friday, you still ain’t got no job and you still ain’t got nothin’ to do?
If that’s the case, then Ice Cube is betting on you checking out his Big3 basketball league this season.
The somewhat gimmicky, nostalgia-powered basketball operation provided quite a bit of fun live moments during its first national tour in 2017, as it returns for another go-around this summer the Big3 is looking to make more use of its TV deal with Fox Sports by moving play to the day that Day-Day, Craig and Pops helped define for a generation of stoners, movie-goers and those who rep both sides.
Playing their original roles from the Friday Trilogy, Cube, Mike Epps and John Witherspoon teased an actual Friday Pt. 4, or “Last Friday,” production when they filmed this but it seems that all the hope we still have left for another Friday movie exist in fake posters on the internet.
Meanwhile, the Big3 starts its second season two weeks from today on June 22nd in Houston, the following week it comes to Chicago where they will play in the United Center for the first time. Added elements to the Big3 stops this year include a Youth 3 on 3 Tournament in conjunction with Adidas the Thursday prior to each evening of games, which will broadcast live this year after airing on tape delay in 2017.
New talent in the league this year includes Metta World Peace, Baron Davis, Amar’e Stoudemire and Nate Robinson joining returning players Rashard Lewis, Chauncey Billups, Kenyon Martin and player/coaches Allen Iverson, Charles Oakley among others.
All stops will feature four back-to-back games on Friday evenings and will be broadcast live on FS1 or Fox this season. Tickets start at $20 and can be purchased at BIG3.com.
