Yeah, we took our time to preview five players expected to be selected in the 2018 NFL Draft, five players who were looking to be the five best shots for the Chicago Bears to take at No. 8.
Of course, the Bears selected none of the players we singled out (feel free to check our home page for confirmation), but they may have selected someone even better.
Not doing a scouting report on Georgia inside linebacker Roquan Smith, the newest Chicago Bear, was not an example of sleeping on the Bulldog standout, it was more of an instance of taking for granted the chances that this top-five overall talent would be available to become a future Monster of the Midway.
As it stood, the Cleveland Browns remained working in their own orbit by themselves and another historic first-round run on quarterbacks allowed Chicago to welcome one who could be another in a line of technically sound yet explosive linebackers who can own the middle of Soldier Field and anchor another generation-defining Bears defense.
Smith gets to go down as the first player selected from a Georgia team that came a hair short of winning the National Championship back in January, he has pretty much no flaws technically to speak of and experts of all types are highlighting him as anything from a perennial starter to a potential Hall of Famer.
Before getting to a few more direct statements from Twitter, here’s another highlight reel based of his winning the Butkus Award from 2017, another convenient connection this guy brings with him to his pro football home.
Stay with WARR throughout the weekend for a lot more on Smith and the rest of the Bears’ 2018 draft class.
