Thursday night marks the long-awaited kickoff of the NBA Finals — may not seem like an ideal night to rock on some real b-boy shit, but thankfully The Promontory in Hyde Park is giving you an option to engage in ball and beats in one special night.
The 53rd St. hotspot welcomes legendary MC, DJ and producing wizard Large Professor along with established Chicago duo Philmore Greene and Rashid Hadee performing as Urbanized Music. This show begins a weekend of Large Pro in Chicago celebrating the 25th Anniversary of his seminal breakthrough album Breaking Atoms, done with DJs K-Cut and Sir Scratch as Main Source.
Released in the summer of 1991, Breaking Atoms was among the most heralded early ’90s records, full of innovative production led by Large Pro, a No. 1 rap single in the classic break-up joint “Looking at the Front Door,” and featuring no less a memorable guest appearance then the first time Nas was put on record – the legendary MC made his introduction on Breaking Atoms’ classic “posse cut” “Live From The Barbeque.”
The one night only event opens their doors at 8 pm, just about the time first tip takes place in Oakland for the Warriors and Cavs, but keeping up on the score will only be a matter of watching one of the large screens that promoters say will be playing Game 1 throughout.
Promoted by Cross State Connection Inc., this show is part of the e! Event Social Concert Series, the lineup will also feature sets by DJs including DJ Pham, SP1VDJ and DJ Sean Doe. Tickets are still available at promontorychicago.com.
