Bears: Joe “Champ” Tanksley Updates Us On A Missing Weapon

Our man Champ, co-founder of, is providing special Chicago Bears-related columns for the RedEye newspaper this season, appearing online every Thursday and in the print edition each Friday.

This week — Champ feels the need to vent after a disappointing Bears loss in Detroit and with the team in the middle of a bye week there’s plenty of time to continue cursing out the bad refs from last Sunday or swinging wildly in the air (Boyz In Da Hood-style) because of bad sideline calls, but the return of Alshon Jeffery last week teased some good times to come — at least for the offense — and there’s still another potential weapon the team could draw once the bye week passes: 2015 first round pick Kevin White.

You can be a pretty adamant Bears fan and not have much of an idea who White is given that he’s yet to play a snap for the team. White suffered a stress fracture in his shin that required surgery and a trip to the Physically Unable to Perform list as his first significant move as a pro.

Champ foresees the eventual coming of White as one of the main highlights to come in a remaining 10-game stretch that could use use pick-us-ups:

“At 6-foot-3 and 217 pounds with world-class speed, fans are anxious to see him suit up.

Now that Alshon Jeffery has finally shown up, a full complement of weapons to aid Cutler and Matt Forte would help the team tremendously as it has struggled to score touchdowns in the red zone.”
