ICYMI: Regal’s Joe “Champ” Tanksley Debuts in Redeye, Previews Bears-Packers

Our man Champ, co-founder of Weareregalradio.com, will be providing some special Chicago Bears-related columns for the RedEye newspaper this season, the first of which premiered online Thursday and in print today, previewing Week 1 against the Packers and trying to offer some reason for the hometown to be positive.

Here’s an excerpt:

Meanwhile, Packers coach Mike McCarthy is telling fans they are going to kick the Bears’ ass. Let’s face it, Green Bay has a lot of experience doing just that. We usually don’t hear that type of bulletin-board material for fear of giving the other team motivation, but apparently the cheeseheads aren’t too worried.

Quite frankly, it doesn’t matter if Fox is talking, and it doesn’t matter how McCarthy feels about his team’s chances. The reality of the situation is that this is the Bears’ best opportunity to beat the Packers this season.

For starters, the Bears have the element of surprise working for them. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and company haven’t seen the “new look” Bears. This will be the first time they have a 3-4 defensive scheme in the regular season. And during his time in San Francisco, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio had great success against Rodgers and the Packers offense.

If you don’t know, Joe has experience playing the game both in the Chicago Catholic League (St. Rita) and in college (Butler). Keep following him here, on the RedEye and on Twitter for real, passionate and informative football talk.

Also remember, you can also catch members of the We Are Regal Radio team in the RedEye’s 5 on 5 feature every Tuesday.
