It doesn’t look like Kyle Schwarber (or, to put it as our very own D put it in Redeye Tuesday — the “one true Kyle” in Chicago…thanks, cuz) isn’t going to be sent back to the minors any time soon.
Even if he did, for some inexplicable reason, he’d have to be brought up for future series at Cincinnati.
Native of some town close to the ‘Nati that no one knows about, the Cubs big-bat rookie had his first signature game last night after a nice week-long run earlier in the season and some more crazy consistent bashing back in the minors.
But Tuesday, Schwarber — or Schwarbs, if we’re looking for nicknames — got down in a major way and provided the opposite of what Reds fans felt when they saw Todd Frazier win the home run derby when he put the North Siders up in the 13th inning with his second blast.
ESPN offered a list of Cubbies who have hit game-winning homers and homers in extra innings since 1940 (always love the specificity from the 4-letter), here’s the list:
Schwarbs
Andre Dawson
Ryan Sandberg
Dave Kingman
Ron Santo
Kyle Schwarber: Clark St. legend in the making.
