Norm Macdonald explains why Eddie Murphy refused to play Bill Cosby on ‘SNL 40’

Norm Macdonald fired up Twitter last night to relive the creation of SNL 40’sCelebrity Jeopardy! sketch, and revealed that he had originally cast Eddie Murphy to play Bill Cosby in sketch’s final punchline.

Murphy has long impersonated Cosby during his standup set (including this famous routine), and in Macdonald’s mind, it was the only way to end one of Saturday Night Live’s most popular sketches. It wasn’t to be, but Macdonald’s story more than makes up for the disappointment.
