Watch: Full Trailer for NWA Movie, “Straight Outta Compton”

The epic film treatment of the World’s Most Dangerous Rap Group’s rise to power and controversy is finally on its way.

Scheduled to come out this August, and with a present-day intro from iconic NWA members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, here is the full trailer, which appropriately premiered during Grammy night and promptly blew everything related to that bloated mess of a promotional vehicle out the water.

Straight Outta Compton looks good in this trailer — the young cast doesn’t look out of place in the group roles and the two minutes or so of movie footage was filled with detailed and action-filled set pieces that seem to span the prime length of NWA.

One thing though: it’ll be interesting to see how the film deals with the more troublesome issues that led to the group’s break-up, issues that mostly stemmed from dissatisfaction that Cube and Dre had.

Now — due to their massive popularity in comparison to MC Ren and DJ Yella and Eazy-E having long left us — the story of the group has been left to Cube and Dre to tell and you figure if anyone stands around to bristle against their vision (paging: inmate Suge) they don’t seem to come out well (notice the fight scene with the group of guys dressed in red? Guessing that scene is Suge Knight-related at least).

One can only wonder how this production would go down if Eazy was still here. Hey, we at least still have Jerry Heller holding on to shake things up.
