Pau Gasol Named NBA All-Star Game Starter

star-logo-nbaReleased within the hour, the NBA has named its starters for the 2015 NBA All-Star Game and Chicago Bulls forward/center Pau Gasol will represent the team for the Eastern Conference as one of the league’s top vote-getters.

Gasol will help lead the East along with the conference’s overall vote leader, LeBron James, and Carmelo Anthony in the front-court while John Wall and first-time all-star Kyle Lowry will start in the back-court.

The Western Conference will counter with league-wide top vote getter Stephen Curry at one guard paired with Kobe Bryant and in the West’s front-court will be Anthony Davis, Blake Griffin and, in a first-time occurrence, brothers will be represented in opposing all-star starting lineups as Marc Gasol takes up the final position.

Back to the elder Gasol, who has resurrected his career in every way since signing with the Bulls as a free agent over the summer — Pau has arguably been the team’s most consistent performer, averaging 11.4 rebounds a game (currently a career high) along with 18.7 points and 2.1 blocks, he leads the NBA in double-doubles (24) and his 46 point, 18 rebound performance against Milwaukee on Jan. 10 was the league’s first performance of that sort in almost four years according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

This will mark Pau’s fifth all-star appearance and his first since 2011, it is also the first time a Chicago Bull will start in the all-star game since Derrick Rose did in 2012. Gasol finished with 974,177 votes to James’s 1,470,483. Curry topped James with 1,513,324 votes.

The Bulls’ next best vote-getter was Jimmy Butler with 455,756, Derrick Rose scored just under 380,000 votes and Joakim Noah came short of 204,000 votes. A reserve spot, as voted on by the Eastern Conference’s coaches, is likely for Butler while Rose and Noah, both multiple-time all-stars, will likely sit out the main festivities this year. All-Star Weekend will take place from Feb. 13 through the 15th, both the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets will act as hosts.
