If you’re free and anywhere in the area, try to make it out and show some support for this great team, they should be seen as far and away the pride of the city right now.

It should be known too that Jackie Robinson West hasn’t materialized out of nowhere to serve as a feel-good salvo to help us through another rough summer, the league from which these Little League all-stars come from has fielded generations of young South Side baseball players, for more on that legacy read Evan F. Moore’s recent piece for the RedEye where he talked to several JRW alumni.

Also, Seth Gruen of the Chicago Sun-Times interviewed JRW All-Stars coach Darold Butler for the paper this week and the coach offered this awesome quote in regards to his team being the first all-black team in three decades to make it to the Little League World Series:

“It’s a good thing…for people who think or have the perception that blacks don’t play baseball, this will change a lot of people’s minds. They will see that blacks do play baseball and we do play at a competitive rate.”

Regal Radio will have our own chance to speak with Bill Haley, director of the Jackie Robinson West Little League, live this Saturday on “The D and Davis Show” at 11:40 a.m., he’ll be calling in from the site of the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. Stay with WARR.com for more on that broadcast.
