There will be no news conference at Wrigley Field for Renteria, who will turn 52 on Christmas Day. The former bench coach of the Padres had hip surgery after the regular season and is unable to travel.

So, to usher in the team’s new age, with its deep talent base awaiting in the minors, the Cubbies’ bring in a guy with a bad hip? Hope he can make it out to the park during those first 30-degree home games in April.

And to back up the words of our guy, Sean Terry, I think the Cubs are missing out.
