Though he isn’t getting the same pub as former teammate Meyers Leonard did last year, now-former University of Illinois star Brandon Paul is providing some local intrigue on the eve of the 2013 NBA Draft, and the Bulls are helping.
Paul, who led the Illini in scoring with averaged 16.6 points a game in his senior season, did quite a bit in this diary entry at NBA.com to continue the rumors that he may be a second round pick of the Bulls, who select at 49 in that round tomorrow after selecting 20th in the first round. Paul, firmly projected as a 2nd rounder at the highest, has already worked out twice with the red and black. In the draft diary, Paul, a native of Gurnee, Ill., bigs up his mentor, former Bull Dickey Simpkins (good for Dickey, being someone’s mentor and all…) and speaks on playing for the Bulls as “a dream come true.”
At 20, the names being mentioned most often include Louisville’s Gorgui Dieng, Duke’s Mason Plumlee, California’s Allen Crabbe and Michigan’s Tim Hardaway Jr.
There’s also been the ongoing rumors of the Bulls using Luol Deng as trade bait for a lottery pick, but that is looking more and more remote as contract extension talks are being reported by Deng’s camp and the Bulls.
The NBA Draft kicks off Thursday night at 6 pm. central.
